The YZ450F's advanced DOHC four-stroke engine is light and compact with world-renowned and incredibly broad pulling power across the entire rev range, thanks to its reversed cylinder head layout, forged aluminium piston, 39mm titanium valves, lightened crank assembly and dry sump lubrication.
Tri-shaft transmission layout vertically stacks the transmission shafts, raising the centre shaft and forming a triangle between the crank, drive shaft and main shaft for a lighter, more compact transmission.
Careful computer-aided design of each wheel’s cross-sectional profile shaves weight without sacrificing durability. The YZ450F's rear wheel comes laced with a three-cross-spoke pattern for improved impact absorption and rider feel.
Optimised intake path draws air from under the side covers and seat allowing for a lighter, slimmer and more compact shroud area. The airbox cover sits low and is narrow, surrounded by the slim radiator shrouds.
An all-new rear braking system provides linear stopping power with improved braking force and controllability in a smaller, lighter package. The size of the rear brake caliper and master cylinder pistons have been reduced, as well as the diameter of the rear brake disc (220mm).
The YZ450F's slim, flat, compact body makes it easy for riders to move around improving control. The optimised rider triangle provides ample legroom between the seat and foot pegs, with a carefully considered handlebar position that allows for a natural posture and increased comfort. Styling includes a compact front number plate, two-piece side covers, sharp rear fender and YZ graphics.
Ride harder for longer thanks to the YZ450F's high-spec fully adjustable Speed Sensitive System KYB® coil spring-type fork, known as the gold standard in the 450 class with exceptional feel and bump absorption, combined with the high performance KYB® shock with hand-operated low-speed compression clicker that deliver excellent damping feel with less bump reaction.
Adding to rider comfort and ease of use is a hydraulic clutch for smooth, consistent engagement with less effort while eliminating the need for on-track adjustments. In addition, the clutch inner hub design lubricates over a larger area for more stable performance and longer life.
An industry-first ECU lock function is adopted for theft deterrence, allowing owners to prevent unauthorised engine start-up via a password-required lock function accessed through the Yamaha Power Tuner app.
